Front Brake Disc Shield - LH

This pressed-steel shield mounts behind the front brake disc, between the disc and the axle swivel housing. It deflects road debris, mud and water away from the disc and pad faces, helping to maintain consistent braking performance and protecting the disc from accelerated corrosion.

The shield bolts to the axle swivel housing and does not contact the disc in normal operation. It is typically renewed when corroded or damaged, or during a front brake overhaul.

Frequently asked questions

What is the FRC6403R brake disc shield and what does it do?
The FRC6403R is the front left brake disc shield for the Land Rover Defender 1987-2006. It's a pressed-steel plate that sits behind the disc and deflects mud, water and road debris away from the disc and pad faces, helping prevent accelerated corrosion and keeping braking consistent.
Which side of the vehicle does this shield fit?
This shield fits the front left-hand (LH) side. It bolts to the front axle swivel housing behind the brake disc and doesn't contact the disc in normal use. The right-hand side uses a separate, mirror-image shield, so check you're ordering the correct side for your Defender.
When should the brake disc shield be replaced?
Replace the disc shield when it's corroded, cracked or bent enough to foul the disc. On Defenders these steel shields typically rust over time, and a distorted shield can rub the disc or trap debris. It's usually renewed during a front brake overhaul while the hub is accessible.
Can I fit this brake disc shield myself?
Fitting is typically a DIY job for anyone comfortable with brakes. The shield bolts to the swivel housing, but on the Defender the front disc and hub usually have to come off to reach the fixings. Basic hand tools are normally enough; no special equipment is typically required.
