Differential Pinion Oil Seal with a double sealing lip, for the front and rear differentials.

It is press-fitted into the differential housing around the pinion shaft and seals where the pinion exits the casing at the drive flange. It retains the differential oil and excludes water and grit at the input flange, with the double lip improving sealing against the rotating shaft. Renewed during differential overhaul or when oil is weeping from the pinion flange.

Frequently asked questions

What does the FTC5258 differential pinion oil seal do?
The FTC5258 pinion oil seal seals the differential where the pinion shaft exits the housing at the drive flange. Its double lip retains the axle oil and keeps water and grit out. It fits front and rear differentials on the Defender to 2016, Discovery 1 and 2, Freelander 1 and Range Rover Classic.
Where is the pinion oil seal located on the axle?
The pinion oil seal sits at the input flange of the differential, pressed into the housing around the pinion shaft where it meets the drive flange. On most applications it's used at both the front and rear diffs, sealing the rotating pinion against oil loss.
How many pinion oil seals do I need?
Typically one pinion oil seal per differential. A vehicle has a front and a rear diff, so refreshing both needs two. It's usually renewed whenever the pinion flange is disturbed or during a differential overhaul.
What are the signs the pinion oil seal needs replacing?
The main sign is oil weeping or dripping from the pinion flange where it enters the differential. Left unchecked, the diff can lose oil and run low. The seal is typically renewed during overhaul or when leakage appears at the flange on these Land Rover axles.
