The seal closes the joint at the manifold-to-head interface, preventing air and boost pressure from escaping the intake tract. Maintaining an airtight seal at this point preserves the correct intake pressure and airflow to the cylinders, supporting stable running and consistent boost delivery. It is renewed whenever the inlet manifold is removed.
