Rear Chassis Extension (Long), a structural repair section for the rear of the ladder-frame chassis.

It renews the rearmost length of the chassis side rails - an area prone to corrosion - providing sound metal to weld in once the rotted original section has been cut away. The long version covers a greater length of the rear chassis legs than the standard extension.

Supplied as a weld-in repair section, for chassis fitted with the metal fuel tank. A galvanised version is available as LR412G.

Frequently asked questions

What is the LR412 rear chassis extension?
The LR412 is a weld-in rear chassis extension (long) for the Land Rover Defender 110 ladder-frame chassis. It renews the rearmost length of the corrosion-prone side rails, giving sound metal to weld in once the rotted original section is cut away. The long version covers more of the rear legs than the standard extension.
What's the difference between the long and standard chassis extension?
The long LR412 covers a greater length of the rear chassis legs than the standard extension. Choose the long version when corrosion reaches further forward along the side rails. Inspect how far the rot extends before deciding, so the new section reaches sound metal.
Which Defender does this chassis extension fit?
The LR412 fits the Land Rover Defender 110 from 1983 to 1998 built with the metal fuel tank. The fuel tank type affects the rear chassis layout, so confirm your 110 has the metal tank before ordering rather than the later plastic-tank arrangement.
Is fitting this a DIY job?
Fitting the LR412 is a specialist welding job, not a bolt-on repair. The rotted section is cut away and the new extension welded to sound chassis metal, so it's usually done by a workshop or experienced welder. The chassis is structural, so the repair must be sound.
