Spring Retainer secures the upper outer mounting of the rear coil spring and damper within the rear suspension assembly.

It clamps the top of the road spring against the chassis-mounted spring seat, holding the spring and shock absorber in their located position under load. On certain configurations the same retainer also carries the rear anti-roll bar mounting.

Frequently asked questions

What is the NRC5603 spring retainer used for?
The NRC5603 spring retainer secures the upper outer top mounting of the rear coil spring and damper. It clamps the top of the road spring against the chassis-mounted spring seat, holding the spring and shock absorber located under load. On Range Rover Classic it also carries the rear anti-roll bar mounting.
Where on the vehicle is this retainer located?
This retainer sits at the rear suspension, at the outer-top mounting where the coil spring and shock absorber meet the chassis. It fits Land Rover Defender up to 2016, Discovery 1, and Range Rover Classic.
Is the NRC5603 the same as part RYF500220?
Yes. The original NRC5603 has been superseded by RYF500220, the current Land Rover part number supplied. It's a direct replacement for the rear outer-top spring retainer, so it fits the same applications.
How many spring retainers are needed for a rear suspension refresh?
Typically one retainer is needed per side, so two for a full rear axle. Many owners replace both sides together when refreshing rear springs or dampers, since the retainers see the same load and corrosion.
