Coolant Rail Assembly for the Td5 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

The coolant rail forms part of the engine cooling circuit, carrying coolant along the side of the cylinder block and linking the block galleries to the thermostat housing and heater feed. Corrosion of the original rail is a recognised cause of coolant loss, so the assembly is a common replacement item during cooling-system overhaul.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Td5 coolant rail assembly for?
The coolant rail carries coolant along the side of the cylinder block on the Discovery 2 2.5L Td5 diesel, linking the block galleries to the thermostat housing and heater feed. It's a core part of the engine cooling circuit on the 5-cylinder Td5.
Why does the Td5 coolant rail fail?
Corrosion of the original coolant rail is a recognised cause of coolant loss on the Td5. The metal rail corrodes from the inside over the years, eventually weeping or splitting, so it's a common replacement during a Discovery 2 cooling-system overhaul.
Where is the coolant rail located on the Td5 engine?
The coolant rail runs along the side of the Td5 cylinder block, connecting the block coolant galleries to the thermostat housing and the heater feed. Access typically means removing surrounding ancillaries on the Discovery 2 engine.
