O-Ring for the power steering hydraulic circuit.

The ring seats at a hydraulic union in the steering system, sealing the joint against the pressurised fluid so that no leakage occurs at the connection. As a rubber seal it hardens and loses its sealing capacity over time, and is renewed whenever the joint it seals is broken during steering hydraulic work.

Frequently asked questions

What does this power steering O-ring do?
This O-ring seals a hydraulic union in the power steering system, containing the pressurised fluid at the joint so it doesn't leak. It sits where parts of the steering hydraulic circuit meet on the Discovery 2 (1998-2004). As a rubber seal, it's what stops fluid weeping from the connection.
Should this O-ring be replaced every time the joint is opened?
Replace this O-ring whenever you break the joint it seals. The rubber hardens and loses its sealing ability with age and heat, so a used ring typically weeps once disturbed. Fitting a fresh O-ring each time you disconnect the union is standard practice on Discovery 2 power steering work.
How many power steering O-rings do I need?
You typically need one O-ring per hydraulic union being resealed, so the quantity depends on how many joints you open on the Discovery 2 power steering circuit. Renew every seal you disturb rather than reuse old ones. Order one per connection you plan to break.
