Timing Belt Tensioner for the 2.5L Td5 5-Cylinder Turbo Diesel engine timing system.

The tensioner pulley bears directly against the timing belt and maintains the correct running tension between the crankshaft drive sprocket and the camshaft sprocket. A correctly tensioned belt is essential for cam timing accuracy; a worn or seized tensioner allows belt slack, increasing the risk of belt jump and valve-to-piston contact.

Replace as a matter of course when renewing the timing belt.

Frequently asked questions

What does the ERR6951R timing belt tensioner do?
The ERR6951R timing belt tensioner keeps the correct running tension on the Td5 timing belt between the crankshaft drive sprocket and the camshaft sprocket. Correct tension is essential for accurate cam timing on the 2.5L five-cylinder engine.
Should the tensioner be replaced with the timing belt?
Yes, replace the tensioner as a matter of course whenever you renew the Td5 timing belt. A worn or seized tensioner lets the belt go slack, so fitting a new one with the belt protects the job.
What happens if the timing belt tensioner fails on a Td5?
A failed tensioner allows belt slack, which risks the belt jumping teeth and losing cam timing. On the Td5 that can cause valve-to-piston contact and serious internal engine damage, so a suspect tensioner shouldn't be left in service.
Which Land Rovers does the ERR6951R tensioner fit?
It fits the 2.5L Td5 Defender (1998-2006) and Discovery 2 (1998-2004), both with and without air conditioning. Confirm against your engine's timing belt layout when ordering.
