Supplied in standard size, for a crankshaft running at its original (unmachined) main journal diameters. Renewed during an engine rebuild or when bearing wear, low oil pressure or knock is found.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 2.25L main bearing set (RTC1729) for?
This main bearing set is the replaceable shell bearings that carry the crankshaft in the 2.25-litre 4-cylinder block, in its 3-main-bearing form. Each shell gives the running surface for a main journal. It's a King-branded set.
Does this fit the 3-bearing or 5-bearing 2.25-litre engine?
This set fits the early 3-main-bearing version of the 2.25-litre 4-cylinder engine only. It won't suit the later 5-bearing crank, so confirm which engine you have before ordering.
What does the Standard (STD) size mean?
Standard size suits a crankshaft running at its original, unmachined journal diameters. A crank that's been reground needs an undersize set instead, so check the journals first.
Which Land Rovers does it fit?
This set fits the 2.25-litre 3-bearing 4-cylinder engine in Series II/III and early Defender models. Confirm your engine is the 3-bearing type before fitting.
