Brand Delphi
Rear Wheel Cylinder (Left-Hand) is the hydraulic actuator within the rear drum brake assembly, mounted to the brake backplate.

Under pedal pressure the internal pistons extend to push the brake shoes outward against the drum, converting hydraulic line pressure into mechanical actuation of the shoes. This unit fits the left-hand side of the rear axle. The brake pipe connects to the cylinder via a 5/16" UNF union nut.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTC3627 rear wheel cylinder and what does it do?
The RTC3627 rear wheel cylinder is the hydraulic actuator in the rear drum brake, mounted on the brake backplate. Brake pedal pressure drives its pistons out to push the shoes against the drum. This is the left-hand version for the rear axle of the Defender 110/130 with rear drum brakes.
Which side does this wheel cylinder fit, and should I replace both?
This RTC3627 is the left-hand rear wheel cylinder. The right-hand side is a separate part, so order it too if you're rebuilding both corners. Wheel cylinders are typically renewed as a pair across the axle so both sides apply braking force evenly.
How does the brake line attach to this wheel cylinder?
The brake line attaches to the RTC3627 wheel cylinder through a 5/16 inch UNF union nut, per the fitment data. Check your existing pipe uses the matching 5/16 UNF thread before ordering. The cylinder bolts to the rear drum backplate on the Defender 110/130.
What are the signs a rear wheel cylinder needs replacing?
A rear wheel cylinder needs replacing when it leaks or seizes. Look for brake fluid on the backplate or contaminating the shoes, a spongy pedal, or the drum grabbing unevenly. A leaking left-hand cylinder on the Defender 110/130 will usually fail an MOT and cut braking performance.
