Contact Set for the Lucas distributor fitted to Land Rover petrol engines, comprising the breaker point assembly within the conventional ignition system.

The contact set mounts inside the distributor and interrupts the primary ignition circuit to trigger the high-voltage coil discharge at each firing event. A standard service replacement item, the contact set is inspected and renewed as part of a routine ignition tune-up on vehicles with conventional (non-electronic) ignition.

Which vehicles and engines does this contact set fit?
This contact set fits the Land Rover Defender from 1983 to 2006 with the 2.25 or 2.5 litre four cylinder petrol engine, and Series II, IIA and III with the 2.25 petrol, in both cases with the Lucas distributor. It doesn't suit vehicles converted to electronic ignition.
How do I know if I have a sliding contact set?
A sliding contact set has the fixed contact plate held by a single screw and slot, adjusted by sliding it against the cam before locking. The alternative pivoting type hinges on a post instead. Take the distributor cap and rotor off and look at how the fixed contact mounts.
What are the signs contact points need replacing?
