Front Shock Absorber, a hydraulic telescopic damper for the front suspension. It mounts between the front axle and the chassis and damps the oscillation of the coil spring, controlling axle movement to keep the tyres in contact with the road and stabilise the ride.

The damper resists rapid suspension travel over uneven ground, limiting body roll and pitch under load. Supplied individually.

Frequently asked questions

What is the STC3766 shock absorber used for?
The STC3766 is a front shock absorber, a hydraulic telescopic damper that mounts between the front axle and chassis. It controls the oscillation of the front coil spring, keeping the tyres on the road and limiting body roll and pitch over rough ground.
Is the STC3766 sold individually or as a pair?
The STC3766 is supplied individually. Front dampers are normally replaced as a pair across the axle so both sides match, since a new damper on one side and a worn one on the other can make the front end feel uneven.
What are the signs a front shock absorber needs replacing?
Worn front dampers typically cause a floaty or bouncy ride, extra body roll in corners, nose dive under braking, or fluid weeping down the damper body. Replacing them restores axle control and stable handling on the Defender.
How do I confirm this front damper fits my vehicle?
This fits the Land Rover Defender 110 and 130 from 1983 to 2006, front position, all engines, between VIN VA998900 and WA159806. It also suits the Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic front. Check your VIN to confirm the variant.
