ERR2081 - Coolant Temperature Sensor – Cylinder Head
This is a sensor rather than a switch. Its temperature-dependent resistance element varies continuously with coolant temperature to produce a measurement signal, where a thermal switch simply opens or closes a circuit at one fixed set point. The engine management system uses the signal to adjust fuelling during warm-up and cold running, and to drive the temperature gauge.
Fitted to 300 TDi, Td5 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo diesel and 2.0L L-Series diesel applications. On Td5 engines the same sensor is also used on the fuel connector block to measure fuel temperature.
