Frequently asked questions

What does the Gear Lever Housing (219714) do?
The Gear Lever Housing seats the spherical lower end of the main gear lever and forms the pivot it swivels on to select gears. It mounts on the gearbox top cover (turret) and is fitted to Land Rover Series models, 101 Forward Control, and Defender models with the LT76 gearbox.
How is the gear lever held into the housing?
The gear lever is held down into the housing by the gear lever retaining spring (219723) and located by a grub screw. When replacing the housing it's worth inspecting that spring too, since a worn spring lets the lever lift and feel sloppy in the Series or LT76 Defender gearbox.
Which gearbox does the 219714 housing fit?
The 219714 housing fits the Land Rover Series gearbox and the LT76 gearbox used in early Defender, plus the 101 Forward Control. On Series 2 and 2A it suits boxes where the later gear lever was fitted. Confirm your gear lever type before ordering.
