Frequently asked questions

What does this oil seal (90214787) do?
This seal fits the clutch cross shaft, which passes through the bellhousing and operates the clutch release fork on early Land Rover Series 2 and 3 vehicles. It seals the cross shaft bore to stop lubricant migrating along the shaft into the clutch housing.
When should this clutch cross shaft seal be replaced?
Replace it if you see oil leaking around the cross shaft where it exits the bellhousing, or whenever the cross shaft is disturbed during clutch or gearbox work, since refitting the old seal after removal risks a fresh leak.
Does this seal fit later Land Rover models too?
This seal is associated with the early Series-era clutch cross shaft design. If you're working on a later model, check the physical seal and cross shaft bore size against your original before fitting, since designs changed across Land Rover generations.
