Frequently asked questions

What is the driving member and what does it do?
The driving member is the front hub drive flange that couples the axle halfshaft to the road wheel hub. It bolts to the outer face of the front hub, where its 24 internal splines engage the halfshaft to transmit drive to the wheel. It fits Series 2 and 3 and early Defender 90/110 axles.
Why does the driving member fail and when should it be replaced?
Driving members typically wear or strip at the 24 splines, often after years of off-road load or running a worn halfshaft. Symptoms usually include a clunk on drive take-up or lost drive to that wheel. Replace it if the splines are rounded or damaged.
How do I know I need the 24-spline driving member?
The 24-spline count must match the splined outer end of the halfshaft fitted to your axle. Count the splines on the old driving member or halfshaft before ordering, as other spline counts were also used. This part suits Series 2 and 3 and early Defender 90/110.
