Aftermarket Part
Aftermarket: Quality alternative. This is a quality alternative, designed to fit and function like the original part, often at a more competitive price.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Salisbury differential bearing and where does it sit?
This differential bearing is one of the pair of taper roller bearings supporting the differential carrier inside the Salisbury axle casing. The carrier holds the crown wheel and diff gears, and the two bearings set the crown-wheel-to-pinion backlash and preload.
Do differential bearings have to be changed in pairs?
Yes, the two Salisbury carrier bearings are typically replaced together. Fitting one new and one worn bearing usually upsets the preload and backlash the pair shares, so a matched pair is renewed during a differential rebuild.
Which Land Rovers does this Salisbury differential bearing fit?
It fits the 4-pin Salisbury rear axle on the Defender 110 and 130 from 1986 to 2006, the Defender 90 rear axle from 1995, and Series 3 109 inch models. Check your axle type against your chassis number before ordering.
What happens if a worn differential bearing is left in place?
A worn carrier bearing lets the differential move under load, which typically shows as axle whine and altered backlash. Ignored, the play usually spreads wear to the crown wheel and pinion, turning a bearing job into a full differential rebuild.
