Frequently asked questions

What is the ERR3545 timing belt pulley and what does it do?
The ERR3545 is a timing belt pulley for the 2.5L 300TDi engine, sitting at the front of the timing belt drive. It guides the toothed timing belt and helps maintain its routing between the crankshaft, camshaft and injection pump drives. It runs on a bearing, so it's a rotating wear item.
Where does the timing belt pulley sit on a 300TDi engine?
The timing belt pulley sits at the front of the 2.5L 300TDi engine, behind the timing belt cover. It runs against the toothed timing belt alongside the crankshaft, camshaft and injection pump sprockets. You'll need to remove the timing belt cover to reach it.
Why does the timing belt pulley fail and when should it be replaced?
Timing belt pulleys typically fail when the bearing wears, causing noise, belt misalignment or loss of belt tension. On the 300TDi it's usually renewed as part of a full timing belt service, since a failed pulley can throw the belt and stop the engine. Replace it whenever the belt is changed.
How do I confirm this timing belt pulley fits my vehicle?
This timing belt pulley fits the 2.5L 300TDi engine in the Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic. It only suits the 300TDi, not the earlier 200TDi or the later Td5, so confirm your engine before ordering rather than relying on model year alone.
