What does the oil pump O-ring seal?
The oil pump O-ring seals the joint between the oil pump and the cylinder block, containing the pressurised oil feed and preventing leakage at the mounting face. It fits 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, including the 200TDi, on the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
Can the oil pump O-ring be reused?
Fit a new O-ring whenever the oil pump is removed. The old seal typically takes a set and hardens once compressed, so reusing it risks an oil leak or loss of oil pressure at the pump. It's a low-cost item to renew during the job.
How do I confirm this O-ring fits my engine?
On the Discovery 1 this O-ring fits the 2.5L 200TDi oil pump up to VIN LA081991; on the Range Rover Classic it fits the 200TDi from VIN JA610294. The Defender application covers the 2.5L petrol and diesel engines. Check your VIN against these breaks before ordering.
