Frequently asked questions

What does the RTC6625 contact set do?
The RTC6625 contact set is the breaker points for a Ducellier-type distributor. The distributor cam opens and closes the points to make and break the ignition circuit, triggering the coil to fire each spark plug. Fitted to Series 2/3 and Defender 2.25L petrol engines running a Ducellier distributor.
Do the points need gapping when fitted?
Yes, the contact points must be set to the correct gap when fitted, then the ignition timing checked. Points are a wearing item, so the faces burn and pit over time and the gap closes up. Set the gap to your engine's workshop manual figure rather than guessing.
Will this contact set fit a Lucas distributor?
No, the RTC6625 is cut for Ducellier-pattern distributors only and won't fit a Lucas unit. The two use different point assemblies. Check whether your Series or Defender engine runs a Ducellier or Lucas distributor before ordering, as they're not interchangeable.
