How many ring sets do I need for a full V8?
A Rover V8 needs eight piston ring sets, one per piston, as it has eight cylinders. This listing covers a single piston, so order eight for a complete engine rebuild. All eight should be replaced together.
Does this fit oversize or rebored engines?
This is a standard-size ring set, so it suits pistons at the original bore size only. It will not fit an engine rebored to oversize. It covers the 4.0L and 4.6L Rover V8 EFI in the Defender, Discovery 1 and 2, Range Rover P38 and Classic.
What are the signs of worn piston rings?
Worn piston rings usually show as blue exhaust smoke, high oil consumption, low compression, or heavy breathing through the crankcase. On a high-mileage Rover V8 the rings and bores wear together, so a rebore may be needed alongside new rings. Replace all eight sets together.
