Frequently asked questions

What does the Transfer Gear Lever Gaiter (338871) do?
The transfer gear lever gaiter (338871) seals the high/low ratio selector lever where it passes through the transmission tunnel cover on Series Land Rovers. It keeps dust, water, and noise out of the cabin and is made from rubber for flexibility around the lever.
Which Series Land Rovers does this gaiter fit?
This gaiter (338871) fits Series 1 (86 and 88 inch wheelbases) and Series II, IIA, and III at the high/low transfer lever position on civilian specification vehicles. It's not suitable for military specification Series vehicles.
What are the signs that the transfer lever gaiter needs replacing?
Signs of a failing transfer lever gaiter typically include cracks or tears in the rubber, a draught or noise around the transmission tunnel, or dirt and moisture entering the cab around the lever. Rubber gaiters on these vehicles degrade over time from oil vapour, heat, and age.
