Frequently asked questions

What is the Swivel Pin Lock Tab (531001) and how is it used?
The swivel pin lock tab (531001) fits the retaining nut on the swivel pin studs in the front axle swivel housing on Series II, IIA, and III Land Rovers. After tightening the retaining nut, the tab is bent over the nut flats to prevent loosening in service.
Can the lock tab be reused, or does it need replacing each time?
Lock tabs are single-use. Bending the tab over the nut flats deforms the metal, so it can't be straightened and reused reliably. Always fit a new swivel pin lock tab (531001) when reassembling the front swivel housing.
How many lock tabs are needed for a swivel housing rebuild?
Series II and III front axles typically have two studs per swivel housing, so usually two tabs are needed per side. Order enough for both sides if doing a full axle rebuild, and always use new tabs rather than attempting to reuse the old ones.
