Handbrake Gasket for the transmission handbrake (parking brake) assembly, sealing the mud shield (oil catcher) against the brake back plate.

It keeps road dirt and water from collecting behind the back plate and blocking the output-flange oil drain. A blocked drain forces leaking oil out through the drum and onto the brake shoes, contaminating the linings and reducing handbrake performance. The gasket is normally renewed whenever the handbrake drum is removed or during rear output shaft oil seal replacement.
