Rocker Cover Gasket for the V8 petrol engine, cork construction.

The gasket seals the joint between the rocker cover and the cylinder head, containing oil within the valvegear and preventing leaks down the side of the engine. Renewed whenever the rocker cover is disturbed.

The cork rocker cover gasket seals the joint between the rocker cover and the cylinder head on the V8 petrol engine. It keeps engine oil contained within the valvegear and stops it weeping down the side of the engine.

How many rocker cover gaskets are needed for the V8?

The V8 has a rocker cover on each cylinder bank, so two gaskets are typically needed to reseal both sides. Many people renew both at the same time, since the engine usually has to be partly stripped to reach either cover.

Can the cork gasket be reused once the rocker cover is off?

No, cork rocker cover gaskets are best treated as single-use. The cork compresses and hardens in service, so it rarely reseals reliably once disturbed. Fit a fresh gasket whenever the rocker cover is removed to avoid an oil leak.
