Courtesy Light Switch is a door-actuated contact switch in the interior lighting circuit, mounted at the door pillar aperture.

When the door is opened the plunger extends and closes the circuit to ground, illuminating the courtesy lamp; closing the door depresses the plunger and breaks the circuit. It interfaces directly with the interior lighting harness and the associated lamp units.

Frequently asked questions

What does the AFU4241L courtesy light switch do?
The AFU4241L is a door-actuated contact switch that triggers the interior courtesy lamp. When the door opens, the plunger extends and closes the circuit to ground, lighting the lamp; closing the door depresses the plunger and breaks the circuit. It sits in the door pillar aperture on Defender and Range Rover Classic.
How many door contact switches does a Land Rover typically need?
Each door typically has its own contact switch, so a full set depends on how many doors trigger the courtesy lamp. Many buyers replace just the faulty one, but if the lamp stays on or won't light, checking the switch on each door is usually worthwhile.
Where is the door contact switch located?
The door contact switch mounts in the door pillar aperture, where its plunger is depressed by the closed door. It's part of the interior lighting circuit and wires into the courtesy lamp harness on Defender up to 2016 and Range Rover Classic.
How do I confirm the AFU4241L fits my vehicle?
The AFU4241L fits Land Rover Defender up to 2016 and Range Rover Classic (1992-1994). SAP fitment lists Defender from VIN HA455946 and Range Rover Classic from VIN JA610294. Check your VIN against these ranges to confirm before ordering.
