Frequently asked questions

What is the V8 Inlet Valve (ERR1780) for?
The V8 Inlet Valve seats in the cylinder head inlet port of the Rover V8 petrol engine in 3.5, 3.9, 4.0 and 4.6 litre forms. It opens against its seat and guide under the camshaft and rocker gear, admitting the air and fuel charge into the combustion chamber.
How many inlet valves does the Rover V8 use, and what guide fits with the ERR1780?
The Rover V8 typically uses eight inlet valves, one per cylinder, so a full head rebuild needs all eight plus the eight exhaust valves. The matching inlet valve guide is LGJ000030, usually renewed alongside the valves when guide wear is present.
What are the signs a Rover V8 inlet valve needs replacing?
Inlet valves usually need attention when they wear at the stem or seat, which typically shows as low compression, rough idle or higher oil use on that bank. Worn valve guides often go with it. They're commonly replaced during a top-end or head overhaul.
Which Land Rovers does the ERR1780 inlet valve fit?
The ERR1780 fits the Rover V8 petrol engine in the Defender, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. It covers the 3.5, 3.9, 4.0 and 4.6 litre variants. Confirm your engine is a Rover V8 before ordering.
