Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal for the engine bottom end, fitted at the rear of the crankshaft where it exits the block towards the flywheel.

The seal runs on the rear crankshaft journal and closes the joint between the crankcase and the flywheel housing, preventing engine oil escaping along the crankshaft into the clutch bellhousing.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ERR2532R crankshaft rear oil seal and what does it do?
The ERR2532R crankshaft rear oil seal seals the rear of the crankshaft where it exits the engine block towards the flywheel. It closes the joint between the crankcase and the flywheel housing, stopping engine oil escaping along the crankshaft into the clutch bellhousing.
Where on the engine does the rear crankshaft seal sit?
The rear crankshaft seal sits at the back of the engine, running on the rear crankshaft journal between the crankcase and the flywheel housing. On these 4-cylinder and 200 TDi engines it's typically only accessible once the gearbox, clutch and flywheel are removed.
What are the signs the rear crankshaft oil seal needs replacing?
The most common sign is engine oil leaking from the bellhousing area, often showing as oil on the clutch or a drip at the gearbox-to-engine joint. A worn rear crankshaft seal can typically let oil reach the clutch and cause slip, so it's usually renewed once leaking.
Should I replace this seal when doing a clutch or flywheel job?
Yes, it's worth replacing the rear crankshaft seal whenever the gearbox, clutch or flywheel is off, since that's the access needed to reach it. The ERR2532R fits Defender 1987-2006, Discovery 1 200 TDi, Range Rover Classic 1992-1994 200 TDi and Series III engines, and cross-references to ERR1535.
