O-Ring - Diff Lock - LT230 provides the hydraulic seal at the differential lock mechanism and front output shaft location within the LT230 transfer case.

The O-ring prevents transfer box oil from escaping past the diff lock selector shaft or output shaft bore. Replacement is recommended whenever the diff lock shaft or front output shaft is removed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the FRC5473 O-ring do on the LT230 transfer case?
The FRC5473 O-ring seals the differential lock mechanism on the LT230 transfer case, stopping transfer box oil escaping past the diff lock selector shaft. It's an OEM seal fitted where the diff lock or front output shaft passes through the casing. Replace it whenever that shaft is disturbed.
How many of these O-rings do I need for a diff lock job?
Typically you'll need just one FRC5473 O-ring per diff lock or front output shaft seal on the LT230. It's sold individually. With the transfer case open, mechanics usually renew any other seals disturbed at the same time rather than reusing hardened rubber.
Why does the LT230 diff lock O-ring fail and when should it be replaced?
The FRC5473 O-ring typically fails when the rubber hardens and shrinks with age and heat, letting transfer box oil weep past the diff lock shaft. Replace it whenever you remove the diff lock selector or front output shaft, since a used O-ring rarely reseals once disturbed.
Which Land Rovers does the FRC5473 O-ring fit?
The FRC5473 fits the LT230 transfer case on Defender 1987-2016, Discovery 1 from VIN FA393361, Discovery 2, and Range Rover Classic up to VIN HA610293. Check your VIN against these breaks, as the LT230 internals changed across the model runs.
