Clutch Slave Cylinder for the manual transmission clutch release hydraulic circuit. It is fed by the clutch master cylinder and mounts at the gearbox bell housing.

Hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder acts on the slave cylinder piston, which drives the pushrod against the clutch release fork to disengage the clutch. A leaking seal or corroded bore loses pressure, giving a soft pedal and incomplete clutch release.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Clutch Slave Cylinder (FTC2498) and what does it do?
The Clutch Slave Cylinder is the hydraulic actuator in the manual clutch release circuit. Fed by the clutch master cylinder, its piston drives a pushrod against the clutch release fork to disengage the clutch. It mounts at the gearbox bell housing on the Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
Which models does the Clutch Slave Cylinder fit?
The Clutch Slave Cylinder fits the Land Rover Discovery 1 (1989-1998) with the LT77 5-speed manual in 4-cylinder and V8 petrol forms from VIN KA045959. It also fits the Range Rover Classic (1992-1994) with LT77 manual from VIN JA610294. Check your VIN and gearbox type.
What are the signs the Clutch Slave Cylinder needs replacing?
A failing Clutch Slave Cylinder usually shows as a soft or sinking clutch pedal and incomplete clutch release, making gear selection difficult. This typically comes from a leaking seal or corroded bore losing hydraulic pressure. On the Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic, fluid leaks around the unit are a common sign.
Is fitting the Clutch Slave Cylinder a DIY job?
Fitting the Clutch Slave Cylinder is typically a moderate DIY job on the Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic, as it mounts externally at the gearbox bell housing. The clutch hydraulic circuit has to be bled afterwards to remove air. Basic hand tools and clutch fluid are usually needed.
