Axle Oil Level Plug - a brass filler and level plug for the axle differential housing, sealed by an O-ring.

It threads into the level/filler port of the differential and sets the correct oil fill height when topping up or checking the axle oil. The O-ring seats against the housing face to provide a leak-free seal, and the brass body resists corrosion and seizing in the steel housing. Fitted to both the front and rear axles.

Frequently asked questions

What is the FTC5403B axle oil level plug used for?
The FTC5403B axle oil level plug seals the oil level and filler port on the differential and sets the correct oil height when checking or topping up axle oil on the Discovery 2. The brass body resists seizing in the steel housing, and the O-ring seals against the housing face.
How many of these plugs are typically needed for a service?
Typically two are needed to cover both axles, since the Discovery 2 has a level plug on each of the front and rear differentials. They're usually sold individually, so order one per axle you're working on.
Where is the axle oil level plug located on a Discovery 2?
The axle oil level plug threads into the differential housing on the Discovery 2, on both front and rear axles. It typically sits at the correct fill height, so the oil level is right when it just reaches the bottom of the plug hole.
Should I replace the O-ring when refitting the plug?
The O-ring seals the plug against the differential housing face. It's typically worth checking or renewing the O-ring whenever the plug is removed, since a hardened or nicked seal can weep axle oil. The brass plug body itself can normally be reused.
