Contact Points Set (Sliding Type) for the distributor ignition of the 3.5 V8 petrol engine, part of the contact-breaker ignition system.
The points are the cam-operated breaker contacts inside the distributor: the distributor cam opens and closes them in step with the engine to switch the ignition coil primary circuit, generating the high-tension pulse that fires each spark plug. The sliding type locates on the breaker plate with a sprung contact arm.
Contact points are a service-wear item - the faces pit and erode and the gap drifts over time, so they are renewed and re-gapped as part of routine ignition maintenance.
