Steering Box Seal Kit reseals the input shaft of the 4-bolt power steering box within the power-assisted steering circuit.

The input shaft is where steering-wheel movement enters the steering box; these seals retain the hydraulic fluid at that point and stop it leaking past the shaft. It is for the 4-bolt (4-pin) type power steering box and applies to power-steering installations only.

The kit contains the input shaft oil seals and their retaining circlips.

Frequently asked questions

What does the STC875 steering box seal kit do?
The STC875 kit reseals the input shaft of a 4-bolt power steering box. The input shaft is where steering-wheel movement enters the box, and these seals retain the hydraulic fluid there and stop it leaking past the shaft. The kit contains the input shaft oil seals and their retaining circlips.
Which vehicles and steering boxes does this kit suit?
This seal kit suits the 4-bolt power steering box on the Land Rover Defender from 1987 to 2006, Discovery 1, and later power-assisted Range Rover Classic models. It's for power steering installations only, and only the 4-bolt (4-pin) box type, so confirm your box before ordering.
What are the signs the input shaft seals need replacing?
The usual sign is power steering fluid leaking from the input shaft where the steering column meets the box, often leaving drips or a damp film around the shaft. Hardened or split seals lose fluid and can cause low PAS reservoir levels and heavier steering. Resealing cures the leak without replacing the whole box.
Is this for the input shaft or the sector shaft?
This kit reseals the input shaft, the top shaft driven by the steering column, not the lower sector or drop-arm shaft. It only fits the 4-bolt power steering box. If your leak is at the drop-arm end, you need the sector shaft seal instead, so identify the leak location first.
