What are the signs this bearing is worn?

A worn front output shaft bearing usually shows as a whine or growl that changes with road speed rather than engine speed, sometimes with vibration through the floor. Play at the output flange and metal particles in the gearbox oil are the confirming signs. Left alone, a failing bearing can damage the shaft and housing.
