Synchro Cone – LT76 is a synchroniser ring from the synchromesh assembly of the LT76 manual gearbox. It is the friction component that brings the gear and the mainshaft to the same speed during a change.

As the gear is selected, the cone is pressed against the matching cone face on the gear; the resulting friction equalises their speeds so the dog teeth can engage cleanly without clashing. The brass cone is a wearing part working in the gear oil.

Worn or glazed synchro cones are a common cause of crunching or baulking on the change, particularly when shifting quickly, and are renewed during a gearbox rebuild.
