Gearbox Mainshaft Oil Seal for the rear of the manual gearbox, sealing the mainshaft where it passes through the rear of the mainshaft-and-gears section.

The seal runs on the rotating mainshaft and retains the gearbox oil at the output end, preventing it from weeping past the shaft. It is renewed whenever the rear of the gearbox is dismantled or an output leak develops.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 236305G gearbox mainshaft oil seal do?
The 236305G seals the gearbox mainshaft where it passes through the rear of the mainshaft-and-gears section. It runs on the rotating shaft and holds the gearbox oil at the output end, stopping it weeping past the shaft.
When should the mainshaft oil seal be replaced?
Replace the mainshaft oil seal whenever the rear of the gearbox is dismantled or an output-end oil leak develops. A worn seal lets gearbox oil weep past the shaft. Fitting a new 236305G during any rear gearbox work avoids a repeat strip-down.
Can the gearbox oil seal be reused once removed?
No, the gearbox mainshaft oil seal is typically single-use. Once it's been pressed out or disturbed it won't reseal reliably, so fit a new 236305G whenever the shaft or rear housing is opened up.
Which Land Rovers use the 236305G mainshaft seal?
The 236305G mainshaft oil seal fits the Land Rover Series 1, Series 2 and 3 and the Defender gearbox. It's fitted at the rear of the mainshaft-and-gears section. Confirm your gearbox type before ordering.
