Kernplug voor het motorblok. Kernpluggen sluiten de kernopeningen af die na het verwijderen van het gietzand tijdens de fabricage in het cilinderblok achterblijven.

Eenmaal gemonteerd, sluit de plug de doorgang naar het waterkanaal. Het fungeert ook als vriesplug, bedoeld om door de uitzetting van bevriezende koelvloeistof naar buiten te worden gedrukt om de druk te verlichten en het blok te helpen beschermen tegen vriesschade.

What is a core plug and what does it do?

A core plug seals the core holes left in the engine block after casting sand is removed during manufacture. Once fitted, it closes the passage against the water jacket. It also acts as a frost plug, designed to push out if the coolant freezes and relieve pressure that could otherwise crack the block.

Why do core plugs need replacing?
