Aftermarket Part
Aftermarket: Quality alternative. This is a quality alternative, designed to fit and function like the original part, often at a more competitive price.

Frequently asked questions

What is the rear right-hand half shaft used for?
The rear right-hand half shaft transmits drive from the differential out to the rear hub inside the axle casing on Series 2 and 3 88-inch models. Its inner end has 10 splines that engage the differential side gear, and this is the shorter shaft fitted to the right-hand side.
How do I know if I need the short right-hand shaft?
The short shaft fits the right-hand side of the rear axle on 88-inch Series 2 and 3 models up to June 1980. The opposite side typically uses a longer shaft, so the two aren't interchangeable. Check which side you're replacing before ordering.
Why do rear half shafts fail on Series Land Rovers?
Rear half shafts fail from repeated shock loading, common off-road or when traction is regained suddenly. The usual failures are worn inner splines or a twisted or sheared shaft. A shaft showing spline wear or distortion should be renewed rather than reused.
Is fitting a rear half shaft a DIY job?
Fitting a rear half shaft is typically a moderate DIY job. The shaft is usually withdrawn from the hub end after removing the hub or drive flange, without disturbing the differential. Basic hand tools are normally enough on these Series axles.
