Copper Washer is a soft sealing washer used to form a leak-tight metal seal at a threaded or banjo union.

Positioned between a bolt or fitting and its mating face, the copper deforms under tightening torque to fill surface imperfections and seal the joint against fluid or gas pressure. As a crush-type seal it is intended for single use and should be renewed whenever the joint is disturbed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the copper washer used for?
The copper washer forms a leak-tight metal seal at threaded and banjo unions, commonly on fuel system fittings. It sits between a bolt or fitting and its mating face, and the soft copper deforms under tightening torque to fill surface imperfections and seal the joint against fluid or gas pressure.
Can the copper washer be reused?
No, replace the copper washer whenever the union is disturbed. It's a crush-type seal that deforms permanently as the fitting is torqued, so a reused washer typically won't seal cleanly and can weep. Renewing it as standard on fuel and fluid unions avoids leaks.
How many copper washers do I need for a banjo fitting?
Banjo bolt unions typically take two copper washers, one each side of the banjo eye, while a plain threaded union usually needs just one. Order to suit the specific fitting you're sealing, as the count depends on the joint.
