Inlet Valve Guide for the diesel cylinder head, part of the valve train.

Pressed into the cylinder head, the guide locates the inlet valve stem and keeps the valve concentric with its seat throughout the cycle, while conducting heat away from the stem into the head casting. A worn guide lets the valve rock in its bore, leading to oil consumption past the stem seal and poor seat sealing. Guides are renewed and reamed to the correct stem clearance during a cylinder head overhaul. Fitted to naturally aspirated and turbocharged diesel engines.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Inlet Valve Guide used for?
The Inlet Valve Guide presses into the diesel cylinder head and locates the inlet valve stem, keeping the valve concentric with its seat and conducting heat from the stem into the head. It's a valve train component for the Land Rover diesel engine.
How many valve guides are needed?
Quantity depends on the cylinder head. Inlet valve guides are typically renewed as a full set during a head overhaul rather than singly, so every valve seats consistently. This is the inlet guide specifically.
Which engines does this inlet valve guide fit?
It fits the Land Rover Defender 1986-2006 2.5 naturally aspirated and 2.5 turbo diesel, and the Series II/IIA and III diesel engines. Make sure you're ordering the inlet guide and not the exhaust guide.
What are the signs of a worn valve guide?
A worn inlet valve guide lets the valve rock in its bore, typically causing oil consumption past the stem seal, smoky running and poor seat sealing. Guides are reamed to the correct stem clearance when they're renewed during a head rebuild.
