Exhaust Valve for the cylinder head valvetrain of the 2.25L and 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder diesel engines.

The valve seals against its seat in the cylinder head and opens on the exhaust stroke to release spent combustion gases into the exhaust port. It is actuated by the camshaft through the pushrod and rocker gear, and runs hotter than the inlet valve.

Frequently asked questions

What does the exhaust valve do?
The exhaust valve seals against its seat in the cylinder head and opens on the exhaust stroke to release spent combustion gases into the exhaust port. It's driven by the camshaft through the pushrod and rocker gear, and runs hotter than the inlet valve.
Which models and engines does it fit?
It fits the 2.25 and 2.5 four-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engines. That covers the Series 2 and 3 2.25 diesel from engine number 36627329C and the Defender 2.5 naturally aspirated diesel.
What are the signs the exhaust valve needs replacing?
A burnt or pitted exhaust valve causes compression loss, hard starting and misfire. The exhaust valve runs hot so it's prone to burning at the seat. It's usually renewed as part of a cylinder head overhaul.
How is the exhaust valve different from the inlet valve?
The exhaust valve is typically smaller in head diameter than the inlet and built to take more heat, so fit it only in an exhaust port. Check you need the exhaust valve, not the inlet, before ordering.
