Exhaust Valve - the poppet valve that seals the exhaust port in the cylinder head and opens on the exhaust stroke to release spent combustion gases into the exhaust manifold.

The single-groove stem tip locates the split collets that retain the valve spring cap. As an exhaust valve it runs at high temperature and relies on a good seat contact to shed heat into the cylinder head, so seat and stem condition are critical to sealing and durability.

For the 2.0L and 2.25L four-cylinder diesel engines.

Frequently asked questions

What does the exhaust valve do in the cylinder head?
The exhaust valve seals the exhaust port and opens on the exhaust stroke to release spent gases into the manifold. This is the single-groove type, whose stem tip locates the split collets that retain the spring cap. Running hot, it sheds heat through its seat, so seat contact is critical.
Which Land Rover diesel engines use this exhaust valve?
This exhaust valve (Land Rover STC1127) fits the Series I 2.0L diesel, Series II and III 2.25L diesel, and Defender 2.25L diesel (1983-1986). It's the exhaust valve specifically, matched to the inlet valve for a full set.
How many exhaust valves are needed for these engines?
These 4-cylinder diesel engines typically use one exhaust valve per cylinder, so four per engine for a full set. Valves are usually renewed together during a cylinder head overhaul rather than individually.
What does single groove mean for fitment?
Single groove means the valve stem has one collet groove, so it must be paired with single-groove split collets and the matching spring cap. Don't mix it with multi-groove valves, since the retention components differ.
