Frequently asked questions

What is this joint washer actually for?
Despite the name, this joint washer is the water pump inlet gasket. It seals the joint between the coolant pump inlet housing and the engine front cover, stopping coolant leaking at that face. It's fitted to Land Rover 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines up to the 200 TDi.
Do I need to replace this gasket when removing the water pump?
Replace this gasket whenever the water pump or inlet housing is removed. A compressed gasket won't reseal reliably and will usually weep coolant. It's typically fitted together with the front cover gasket, so it's worth renewing both while the cover is off.
Which engines and models does this gasket fit?
This water pump inlet gasket fits the 2.25L petrol and diesel Series II, IIA and III, the Defender 1987-2006 (2.25L and 2.5L petrol, naturally aspirated and turbo diesel, and 200 TDi), Discovery 1 1989-1998 (200 TDi), and Range Rover Classic 1992-1994 (200 TDi, from VIN JA610294). Confirm your engine before ordering.
