Bonnet Release Cable is the Bowden control cable that links the in-cab release lever to the bonnet latch mechanism.

Pulling the release lever draws the inner cable, which trips the bonnet catch and allows the bonnet to be raised. The cable runs from the pull handle through the bulkhead to the front panel latch. This assembly is for models without electronic fuel injection (Less EFI).

A stretched, seized or snapped cable prevents the bonnet from releasing; replacement restores reliable single-pull operation of the catch.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ASR1457 bonnet release cable and what does it do?
The ASR1457 is the bonnet release cable for the Land Rover Defender, the Bowden cable that links the in-cab release lever to the bonnet latch. Pulling the lever draws the inner cable and trips the catch so the bonnet can be raised. It runs from the pull handle through the bulkhead to the front latch.
Why does the bonnet release cable fail?
The bonnet release cable fails when the inner cable stretches, seizes in its outer sleeve, or snaps, leaving the bonnet stuck shut. Corrosion and age are the usual causes on older Defenders. Replacing the cable restores reliable single-pull operation of the catch.
Which Defender does this cable fit?
This cable fits Defender Less EFI (non-injection) models built from VIN TA977537 to WA159806, covering 1983 to 2006. Confirm your Defender predates the EFI change and that your VIN falls in that range before ordering.
