Oil Pump Shaft & Gear for the 3.5L V8 petrol engine, part of the lubrication system. The shaft and its drive gear transmit rotation from the camshaft to operate the oil pump, which draws oil from the sump and circulates it under pressure through the engine.

The shaft locates in the front of the engine between the camshaft skew gear and the oil pump drive; on the V8 the same shaft also drives the distributor.

Frequently asked questions

What does the ERC1351 oil pump shaft and gear do?
The ERC1351 oil pump shaft and gear drives the oil pump on the 3.5L V8 petrol engine. It transmits rotation from the camshaft to operate the pump, which circulates oil under pressure through the engine. On this V8 the same shaft also drives the distributor.
Where does the oil pump shaft fit in the engine?
The oil pump shaft locates in the front of the engine, between the camshaft skew gear and the oil pump drive. Because it also turns the distributor on the V8, it links the lubrication and ignition drives on the 3.5L engine.
Which models and engines does this fit?
This shaft and gear is listed for the 3.5L V8 petrol engine in the Defender, Discovery 1, Range Rover Classic and Series III Stage 1. Confirm your engine is the 3.5L V8 before ordering, as other Rover V8 capacities can differ.
What happens if the oil pump drive gear wears?
A worn or stripped oil pump drive gear can reduce oil pump output and oil pressure on the 3.5L V8. Because the same shaft drives the distributor, drive problems here can also affect ignition timing. Low oil pressure on a V8 needs investigating promptly to avoid engine damage.
