Frequently asked questions

What does the FRC2528 clutch release pivot do?
The FRC2528 clutch release pivot is the fulcrum the clutch release lever swings on, mounted inside the bellhousing. It converts slave cylinder movement into travel of the release bearing against the clutch diaphragm. It's fitted to V8 petrol models with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
Which Land Rovers does the FRC2528 pivot fit?
The FRC2528 pivot fits the Defender up to 2016, Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic, all with V8 petrol and a manual gearbox. On Range Rover Classic the fitment splits around 1991 to 1992, so use your VIN to confirm the variant.
How many clutch release pivots are needed?
Typically one clutch release pivot is needed per gearbox. It's usually replaced as a single unit during a clutch overhaul, when the bellhousing is already open and the release lever and bearing are accessible.
Why does the clutch release pivot wear out?
The clutch release pivot wears at the point where the release lever bears on it, which typically causes a heavy or notchy pedal and poor clutch release. It's worth renewing while the gearbox is out, since later access means splitting the bellhousing again.
