Upper Ball Joint for the front axle steering knuckle (swivel housing) assembly.

The knuckle pivots on an upper and a lower ball joint; this upper joint forms one of the two pivot points that let the front wheel assembly swivel for steering while carrying suspension loads. It is a common wear item - play here causes steering wander, knock over bumps and uneven tyre wear, and the joints are usually renewed in pairs with the lower joint FTC3571.

The front upper ball joint retaining nut is NY214043.

Frequently asked questions

What is the FTC3570R upper ball joint used for?
The FTC3570R is the front upper swivel ball joint for the Discovery 2 (1998-2004) and Range Rover P38 (1994-2002). It carries the Land Rover reference FTC3570 and forms the top pivot that lets the front hub steer while bearing suspension load.
How many upper ball joints does the vehicle need?
One FTC3570R is fitted per side, so two are needed to do both front swivels. The upper joints are typically renewed alongside the lower ball joints FTC3571 when refreshing the front suspension.
What are the symptoms of a worn upper ball joint?
A worn upper ball joint typically causes steering wander, knocking over bumps, and uneven front tyre wear on the Discovery 2 and Range Rover P38. Vertical play when the top of the wheel is rocked usually confirms replacement is due.
