Connecting Rod Bearing Set - a set of big-end bearing shells for the Rover V8 petrol engine.

The connecting rod bearings are the split shell bearings between each con rod big-end and its crankshaft crankpin, providing the hydrodynamic oil-film surface on which the rod turns as the crankshaft rotates.

This set is machined to +0.010in oversize, to suit a crankshaft whose crankpins (big-end journals) have been reground 0.010in undersize. Confirm the crankshaft regrind size before ordering so the bearing shells match the journals.

Frequently asked questions

What is the con rod bearing set for?
The con rod bearing set is the big-end bearing shells for the Rover V8 3.5 litre petrol engine. The shells sit between each connecting rod big-end and its crankshaft crankpin, giving the oil-film surface the rod turns on. This set covers the engine's con rod (big-end) bearings.
What does the .010 inch oversize mean on this bearing set?
The .010 inch oversize means the shells are machined 0.010in larger to suit a crankshaft whose big-end journals have been reground 0.010in undersize. Confirm your crankshaft's regrind size before ordering so the shells match the journals. The wrong size gives incorrect bearing clearance.
Which engines and models does this bearing set fit?
This set fits the 3.5 litre Rover V8 petrol engine in the Defender 1983 to 1994, Discovery 1 1989 to 1995, Range Rover Classic 1970 to 1994, and Series III Stage 1 V8 1979 to 1985. It's for the V8 only, so confirm your engine is the 3.5L V8 before ordering.
How is the con rod bearing set supplied?
This is supplied as a big-end bearing set for the Rover V8. Big-end shells are typically renewed together during a bottom-end rebuild or after a crankshaft regrind, rather than individually, so bearing clearance stays even across all cylinders. Fit them with the crankshaft journals cleaned and checked.
