Lock Nut is a captive plastic fastener (commonly known as a Lokut nut) that receives a No. 10 self-tapping screw.

The body pushes into a square panel aperture (7 mm) where its shoulders grip to hold it captive, presenting a threadless tapping bore that the screw cuts into as it drives home. It is used to secure trim and mechanism components such as door window regulators, facia panels and tailgate trim, allowing a screw fixing into thin sheet or moulded panels without a separate backing nut.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTC3748 lock nut and how does it work?
The RTC3748 lock nut is a captive plastic fastener, often called a Lokut nut, that receives a No. 10 self-tapping screw. It pushes into a 7mm square panel aperture where its shoulders grip to hold it captive, giving a threadless bore the screw cuts into. It fits Series II/III, Defender and Range Rover P38 trim.
Where is the RTC3748 lock nut used on the vehicle?
The RTC3748 secures trim and mechanism parts into thin or moulded panels. Typical uses are the Defender door window regulator and upper facia, and the Range Rover P38 lower tailgate, anywhere a screw fixing is needed without a separate backing nut.
How many RTC3748 lock nuts should I order?
Order one RTC3748 per screw fixing point. These captive nuts are small and easily lost or cracked on removal, so it's usually worth ordering a few spares when refitting a panel or regulator rather than just the exact count.
