Frequently asked questions

What does the heater control assembly do?
The heater control assembly mounts in the dashboard panel and regulates cabin heating and ventilation on right-hand-drive Defenders. Its levers set blower operation, temperature and air distribution, transmitting that movement to the flaps inside the heater box. It's the control unit you adjust from the dash, not the heater matrix itself.
Which Defenders does this RHD heater control fit?
This heater control assembly fits right-hand-drive Land Rover Defenders (1987-2006) up to chassis number 2A633474. Later vehicles used a revised control, so check your chassis number against that ceiling before ordering. Left-hand-drive vehicles need a different part.
Are any other parts needed to fit the heater control?
On earlier applications you may also need the heater wiring assembly UTP1908 and the operating trunnion RTC5978 to complete the installation. Check what your vehicle already has fitted before ordering, since later setups may not use both. These transfer the control movement and power through to the heater box.
What are the signs a Defender heater control needs replacing?
A heater control typically needs replacing when the levers seize, feel notchy, or no longer move the heater flaps, leaving you stuck on hot or cold. Worn cables and a cracked control quadrant are common causes on older Defenders. Panel illumination failing is another sign the assembly is worn.
